MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. (TCN) — Authorities recently announced the rearrest of a suspect accused of killing a 15-year-old after he was mistakenly released from custody.
According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Ty Sage was first indicted in May on charges of second-degree murder and robbery. ABC News reports that Sage allegedly killed 15-year-old Lowgunn Ivey.
Sage appeared in court for a bail hearing on Sept. 17 and was mistakenly allowed to post bail on Sept. 22. The sheriff’s office learned about the suspect’s release the following day.
Sheriff Morrisey O’Donnell “immediately launched an inquiry into how Sage’s release occurred,” and officials learned of “a misinterpretation” on the sheriff’s office’s part. The inquiry is ongoing.
The sheriff’s office noted that employees “acted in good faith and sought clarification with the court,” but Sage should not have been allowed to post bail.
The sheriff’s office, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, took Sage into custody on Sept. 25 at a gas station “without any use of force.” He will be booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center without bail.
O’Donnell said, “Ty Sage should never have been able to post bail. To the family of Lowgunn Ivey, the young man killed, I want to acknowledge the fear and trauma that this mistaken release has caused.”
