A Texas 31-year-old man accused of stabbing a woman, slashing her throat and leaving her for dead in a pasture has been arrested.
Roger Gonzalez of San Antonio was arrested Sunday afternoon, days after the San Antonio Police Department said it first received calls about a wounded woman who had been found wrapped in plastic and left in a pasture.
“She had been beaten, stabbed and had her throat slashed,” police said on Facebook announcing Gonzalez’s arrest.
The Atacosa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday the woman was taken to a hospital and is being treated for her injuries. She is in stable condition though, but her wounds were serious.
The woman was found near Poteet, Texas, a rural enclave roughly 40 miles from San Antonio. Investigators did not divulge details about tips they received that led them to Gonzalez at the San Antonio residence.
Gonzalez was in a relationship with the victim, Sheriff David Soward told CBS San Antonio affiliate KENS5.
Police said Gonzalez was wearing an ankle monitor while allegedly attacking the woman. Gonzalez has a criminal history in California and has been convicted of drug and weapons charges in Kern County, Texas, court records show.
He has been charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the current incident. As of Tuesday, Gonzalez remained in detention at the Atacosa County Jail with a bond set at $275,000.
