FREMONT, Calif. (TCN) — A 29-year-old man allegedly targeted a 71-year-old man who reportedly appeared on a sex offender registry and fatally stabbed him.
On Sept. 18, the Fremont Police Department responded to a report of a “violent altercation” at a home. At the scene, officers found a 71-year-old victim, identified by KTVU-TV as David Brimmer, unresponsive on the ground with severe stab wounds. Officials attempted to revive Brimmer, but he died.
Authorities located the suspect, Varun Suresh, outside the home and arrested him. A knife was recovered.
According to police, evidence suggested a “violent struggle.” Suresh reportedly “specifically targeted the victim because of the victim’s age and previous offenses.” Police said he “admitted that he sought out registered sex offenders as potential victims.”
Allegedly, Suresh armed himself with a knife, dressed as an accountant, and chased Brimmer into a residence and attacked him. Suresh reportedly told officials he spoke with Brimmer and “tried to appear as non-threatening as possible” before the alleged attack.
According to court documents reviewed by KTVU, Suresh claimed he wanted to kill a sex offender for years because “they hurt children” and that they “deserve to die.”
On Sept. 22, Suresh was charged with murder, armed individual causing great bodily injury, and residential burglary.
