Man arrested for allegedly shooting 10-year-old girl in road-rage incident

SAN ANTONIO (TCN) — A man is in custody after allegedly firing his gun into a family’s van in a road-rage incident that left a 10-year-old girl critically injured.

The San Antonio Police Department announced 41-year-old Bryan Arceo was taken into custody on Jan. 30 and charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of endangering a child.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by KSAT, Arceo reportedly backed out of a driveway and cut off a van carrying Jason Gates, his 10-year-old daughter Alisa Gates, and his wife, who has not been named, per People. The van’s driver honked at Arceo, who was driving his ex-wife and his 11-year-old daughter.

KSAT reports Arceo allegedly brake-checked the van, pulled up alongside it, and pointed his gun at the woman driving. The woman then quickly turned right as she heard a loud pop. Gates said he smelled gunpowder, the affidavit states, and Alisa Gates, who was in the backseat, told her parents she had been shot.

People reports they initially started to drive Alisa Gates to the hospital but then followed Arceo for several blocks to get his car’s license plate number and a description of him. They then drove around him after he allegedly pulled over and exited his vehicle while holding the gun, according to the affidavit obtained by KSAT.

KENS reports police responded to the family’s call in a parking lot and immediately began lifesaving measures on Alisa Gates before EMS arrived. She was then taken to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery.

Surveillance footage showed Arceo dropping his child off at school. He also reportedly dropped his wife off at work, per KSAT. According to the police department, a multi-unit response was activated to locate and arrest him and he was then taken into custody. The affidavit states Arceo’s wife saw him pull his handgun out and point it at the driver of the van before shooting.

A live 9 mm round was found at the scene of the shooting, per KSAT.

KTSA reports that as of Feb. 2, Alisa Gates is recovering and beginning to walk again.

According to KENS, Arceo’s bonds total $375,000.
