Man banned from Planet Fitness charged after allegedly stabbing employee

CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, Pa. (TCN) — A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing of a gym employee.

The Cheltenham Township Police Department announced that on April 2, police were dispatched to a Planet Fitness gym after receiving a report of a stabbing. When they arrived, the victim, an employee whose name has not been released, was suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital and treated for life-threatening injuries.

Davier Massey, 28, was arrested near the scene and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, possession of an instrument of a crime, simple assault, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, harassment, and disorderly conduct.

According to police, Massey had previously been banned from the gym. The Independent reports he had been kicked out for unpaid membership bills the day before the stabbing. Massey reportedly returned twice on April 2 and caused a disturbance. The second time he returned to the gym, he and the employee allegedly got into a physical altercation that escalated, eventually ending with the stabbing.

Massey was denied bail and remains in custody, according to police. The investigation is ongoing.
