A Florida teenager allegedly admitted to shooting his older brother and dumping his body in a nearby canal — and their mother thinks she knows why.

The Broward County Sheriff”s Office identified 15-year-old Demetre Fleurimond as the suspect in the death of his brother, 23-year-old Kevin Dominique, whose body was found on Tuesday. According to Carey Codd, a spokesperson from the sheriff’s office who spoke to local ABC affiliate WSVN, Fleurimond confessed to shooting his brother at the home they shared with their mother. He then allegedly used Dominique’s car to drive his body to the canal to dispose of it.

The car was found in a library parking lot.

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, police received reports of a dead body in a canal in Dania Beach at around 8 a.m. on Tuesday. They determined that Dominique had died of multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation quickly led police to question Fleurimond, who allegedly “intentionally shot and killed” his brother at their home. The teenager reportedly confessed to the killing the same night, and he was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree murder with a firearm. Police said he was processed through the state’s Juvenile Assessment Center.

Local independent news affiliate WPLG obtained an arrest report that stated that Dominique was last seen alive on Sunday. When he did not show up for work on Monday morning, he was reported missing.

WPLG spoke to Marie Jeanty, the mother of both brothers, who offered up a possible motive for why Fleurimond allegedly gunned down his own brother. Jeanty told WPLG, “Sunday morning, when I came back I saw the kitchen tiles were clean. I said [to Fleurimond], ‘I know you did it, but Kevin must’ve asked you to do it.’ He said, ‘Yes I did it. Kevin told me to do it.’ I believe that made him mad.”

Jeanty told the outlet that when she spoke to her younger son after his arrest, she asked him if he had been abused by Dominique, and “[h]e said ‘no.'”

WSVN reported that Fleurimond was scheduled to be in court on Thursday.
