A 25-year-old man is accused of sexually assaulting his underage female cousin and murdering her mother and grandma in Houston late Wednesday and early Thursday.
It began around 11 p.m. Wednesday when police were called after someone found a body outside the building of a since-closed bank on Houston’s northwest side. A custodian who works at a business next door told officers she heard gunshots about 9:30 p.m. When her son came to pick her up around 11 p.m., he found the body and called police. Cops responded to the scene and found the body of a 66-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and other injuries. It appeared she had been dumped in the parking lot, Houston police Sgt. Ben Beall told reporters.
Video showed the suspect vehicle was a white Chevrolet pickup truck with blue collapsible boxes in the back. Detectives were investigating when they received another call around 2:50 a.m. from a 12-year-old girl saying her cousin had shot her grandma and mother at a home about four miles from the original crime scene. When officers arrived at the home, they saw the same pickup truck that had been seen at the abandoned bank, Beall said.
The suspect walked out of the home, and officers found a gun and knife on him. He was taken into custody. The girl told officers her mother was dead inside. Officers found the woman, 42, in the bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound, Beall said. The girl also said the suspect sexually assaulted her. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
“There had been numerous calls for service up here to the residence. Some of them, including the cousin who was charged at one point with criminal trespass over here,” Beall said. “We understand that he has some drug issues and is not welcome over here at the house.”
The suspect, who is facing two capital murder charges, and victims have yet to be publicly identified. Police continue to investigate and have not released a possible motive.
