Man sentenced for stabbing victim in the throat over ‘disagreement about who was next in line’

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (TCN) — A 64-year-old man will spend time behind bars for stabbing a victim over a dispute about a line at a gas station.

According to the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Frank Lawson pleaded guilty on July 7 to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. A judge sentenced Lawson to 17 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

On June 18, 2023, Lawson and the victim reportedly got into a “disagreement about who was next in line at a local gas station” when Lawson retrieved a knife and stabbed the victim in the throat. Prosecutors said the man survived “due to the quick response of Greenville EMS and the medical professionals at Prisma [Health].”
