Man Shot Crush in Head After She Rejected His Romantic Advances – Crime Online

A Minnesota man was charged on Monday with killing a woman in her apartment last month.

Hennepin County police performing a welfare check at Kayli Arseth’s home on June 17 found her deceased with a gunshot wound to the head. An investigation uncovered that Arseth, 22, recently met Jose Xique, 27, online — and she told him she was not interested in a romantic relationship but wanted to remain friends, according to the Star Tribune.

“I don’t have the mental capacity for any type of relationship now,” Arseth reportedly wrote in a Snapchat message to Xique.

Neighbors told police that on June 16, they overheard Arseth saying, “How could you do this to me?” while arguing with an unknown man. They later heard someone leaving her apartment.

Xique’s phone data reportedly placed the device at a location in Bloomington on June 16. There, investigators discovered 16 rounds of ammunition, an empty package of gauze, disposable gloves, and clothing, according to the Star Tribune. Authorities believe the items were purchased earlier that day.

Alarms were raised on June 17 when Arseth did not show up for work or a meetup with a friend. Police officers got a key to her apartment from management after she did not answer her door, according to KTSP.

Xique, who was arrested on Thursday, allegedly had a 9 mm gun in his home. Officers noted that he had various scratches on his body and puncture wounds on his forearm, according to KARE.

Hometown Source reported that investigators believe Xique was already at Arseth’s apartment when he messaged her to “have fun” with her friend.

“I just want to be there for you. And you say you don’t want any other relationship, but I feel like you’re just looking for something different,” he allegedly also messaged Arseth that day before apologizing for being “pushy” and saying he would “tone it back.”

Xique is charged with second-degree murder and remains jailed on $2.5 million bail. He is due in court on Tuesday.
