It took a jury just one hour to convict a Louisiana man of murder for the shooting deaths of his estranged wife and her mom after the woman’s father — who was also gunned down but survived — gave a firsthand account of what happened from the witness stand, reports say.

“He did this — like right here,” 77-year-old John Johnson told jurors about being shot by Donald White II, 32, during his early morning attack on Johnson’s daughter Jasmine Johnson. Both Jasmine Johnson and her mother, John Johnson’s wife Joan Johnson, were killed in January 2024, according to The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate newspaper.

“Pow,” John Johnson said, while holding his hand up on the stand as if he was holding a gun horizontally. “He shot me.”

Jasmine Johnson and Joan Johnson, ages 29 and 70, respectively, were at Jasmine’s home in Shreveport when White — her estranged common-law husband — forced his way into the home and started blasting. The former couple’s three children were also home at the time, according to prosecutors, but weren’t targeted or injured.

John Johnson, who was found guilty Wednesday in Caddo District Court, told jurors he and Joan Johnson were staying with Jasmine Johnson at the time of the shooting and he awoke to a disturbance, according to local CBS affiliate KSLA. The first thing that John said he saw after waking up was his wife lying near their bathroom door with her head bloodied, the Advocate reports. He next saw White nearby, who locked eyes with him and opened fire.

“Are you a hundred percent sure it was me?” White, who represented himself during his trial, reportedly asked John Johnson.

“I’m a thousand percent,” John Johnson replied.

Throughout his trial, White had to be reprimanded and told of the requirements of representing himself by the judge, who told him at one point, “That’s not how this works,” according to the Advocate.

Police recorded a statement from Jasmine Johnson after she was hospitalized with injuries that would ultimately prove fatal. She accused White of chasing her in his car earlier in the day after he spotted her at a grocery store. She had two of their three children in her car and said she was 23 weeks pregnant at the time.

According to Jasmine Johnson, White rear-ended her car twice and forced her off the road. He allegedly ran up to her car afterward, grabbed her by the shirt and hair as she was inspecting her vehicle for damage, and then tossed her to the ground repeatedly.

“I drove off quick, because he said he was gonna kill me,” Jasmine Johnson said.

White is due back in court on Sept. 19 for his sentencing. He is reportedly facing up to life in prison without parole.
