An Indiana man allegedly desperate to eliminate his estranged wife first tried to run her over with his car — and then allegedly tried to gun her down a day later.
Carlton Gray, 46, is behind bars in the Marion County Jail after being charged with the attempted murder of his wife, from whom he has been separated since March. According to court records obtained by local Fox affiliate WXIN, Gray tried to run the woman down with his vehicle outside the Goodwill store in Indianapolis where she worked. She reportedly told police that Gray had harassed her multiple times at work and allegedly told her on several occasions, “I’m going to kill you.”
The interview with police took place after Gray allegedly broke into a residence where the woman was the following day and fired five shots, hitting the woman in the leg.
According to WXIN’s reporting on the pair of alleged murder attempts against his estranged wife, Gray also allegedly threatened to kill the woman’s new boyfriend.
Gray was booked into the county jail on Tuesday and charged with two counts of attempted murder as well as two counts of intimidation, burglary, battery by means of a deadly weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. According to jail records, Gray has an arrest record going back to 2003, including an arrest for domestic battery in 2005.
As recently as this month, Gray had a court appearance scheduled in connection with a 2020 charge of reckless homicide. That case is still open and active.
Gray appeared in court on Thursday in connection with his most recent charges and a judge issued a $200,000 bond and a no-contact order should he be released. If released, he was also ordered to wear a GPS monitor and remain on home detention. His next court date is scheduled for June 11.
