Man Who Attacked Judge in Court Now Charged With Attempted Murder – Crime Online

The man who attacked a Las Vegas judge last week now faces 13 news charges, including attempted murder, battery on a protected person, and disregarding safety of people and property.

Three-times felon Deobra Redden, 30, dove over Clark County District Judge Mary Kay Holthus’s bench on January 3 as the 62-year-old magistrate was about to sentence him following his guilty plea on attempted battery charges, as CrimeOnline reported. Redden slammed Holthus’s head into wall and injured a marshal and the judge’s law clerk before he was subdued.

Redden was back in Holthus’s courtroom on Monday, when she sentenced him to 19 months to four years in prison, saying that was the exact sentence she was about to pronounce before the attack, KNTV said.

Redden appeared before Clark County Justice Court Judge Diana Sullivan on Tuesday to hear the new charges. Sullivan told Redden that she knows Holthus, but not well, and plans to handle the case as she would any other case.

Sullivan set Redden’s preliminary hearing for February 14 and said he will remain behind bars until then.

A Las Vegas police spokesperson told KNTV that the law enforcement is taking extra precautions with Redden after his violent attack, which he blamed on having a “bad day” and Holthus having it “out for me.”
