MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. (TCN) — A 26-year-old woman stands accused of fatally stabbing her 39-year-old manager, a mother of six who worked at a McDonald’s restaurant for 15 years.
According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, on the morning of July 10, Jennifer Harris, a manager at McDonald’s, sent Afeni Muhammad home early from her shift. Muhammad allegedly came back to the restaurant through the employee entrance wearing a mask and armed with a knife before stabbing Harris multiple times.
A customer at the drive-thru window reportedly intervened and fired his legally concealed weapon. Prosecutors said Muhammad fled, and the armed customer followed her and held her at gunpoint until Eastpointe Police arrived.
Muhammad was arraigned on July 11 on charges of first-degree premeditated murder and carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent. A judge set her bond at $25 million.
In a statement, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said, “This is an absolutely senseless and heartbreaking tragedy. A life was taken in an act of unimaginable violence. The victim leaves behind six children, six young lives that will now grow up without a parent. This isn’t just a statistic; this is a family shattered, a future forever altered.”
The prosecutor continued, “It is deeply troubling that we continue to see violence used as a response to conflict. How have we reached a point where, for some, the solution to a disagreement or problem is to pick up a weapon instead of finding a way to resolve differences peacefully? This should not be normal, and it must not be accepted as the status quo.”
