It’s back-to-school season for parents everywhere, a reminder of how fast the young ones grow — and for The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Melissa Gorga, a hilarious rite of passage is a reminder of how wacky and wild high school can be.
Over the weekend, the On Display singer posted a video to her Instagram Stories showing her and Joe Gorga’s youngest child, Joey Gorga Jr., showing off his brand new haircut, and let’s just say his mother was less than thrilled with how it turned out, as conveyed in her weary-face emojis.
“And then this happened,” Melissa captioned the video.
The teen revealed his head had been unevenly shaved on each side, his naturally curly hair still on top. His right side exposed a close-to-the-grain buzz, while the left side was choppily cut with chunks missing. But, according to Melissa, it was a time-honored tradition for those moving up in their grade, all in good fun.
“The new sophomores always have to let the seniors give them a haircut,” the mom added with a flushed face emoji.

How Melissa Gorga’s kids spent their summer vacation
The first day of school is drawing near, though Joey and his older siblings, Gino Gorga and Antonia Gorga — the oldest of whom was home in New Jersey for the summer off from the University of Delaware — made the most of their peak-season fun. Spending time with their parents, plus those closest to them, the Gorgas have enjoyed many-a day at their summer home on the Jersey Shore.
“Oh, how things change,” Melissa said in an Instagram Story over Memorial Day weekend. “Where are the swimmies and the big bows in the hair? They have officially taken over Missy G’s!!”
Still, Melissa said she “Wouldn’t change it for anything.”
Elsewhere, casual dinners, cookouts at their holiday home, and charity games with other Housewives were just a few fun times the Gorgas had while school was out.

Around this time last year, the Sprinkle by MG founder celebrated her sons’ first day of school together.
“I love their bond and want them to stay like this forever,” Melissa wrote in the September 5, 2024, Instagram post. “I literally can’t believe Joey is starting high school. My baby. I love them so much!”
The Gorga boys kept the academic year full with extracurricular sports, and Melissa proved time and time again to be their biggest cheerleader, no matter their athletic endeavors, from football games to wrestling matches. Last year, Joey wore jersey number 25 when he played with his high school lacrosse team for the first time. But, no matter how big the boys get and how many achievements they tackle, Joey Jr. will always have a special place in his mom’s heart as the youngest of the bunch.
“WILL ALWAYS BE MY BABY,” Melissa said in an April 27 Instagram video to celebrate her youngest’s 15th lap around the sun, “to a boy who literally lights up the room with his smile … You have me wrapped around your finger. We love you!”
