ROSEVILLE, Mich. (TCD) — Officials have charged a 54-year-old man on suspicion of fatally beating his 72-year-old roommate inside a boarding house during an altercation this week.
According to a news release from the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, on Wednesday, Jan. 31, Mark Newsome and his elderly roommate, Dale Mitchell, got into an argument that turned physical. The dispute was reportedly over food from Taco Bell, WJBK-TV reports.
During the fight, Newsome allegedly punched Mitchell in the head multiple times, and the victim died from his injuries.
The prosecutor’s office charged Newsome with second-degree murder, a life felony. He appeared in court for his arraignment on Feb. 1 and was denied bond. Newsome is scheduled to appear in court again on Feb. 14 for a probable cause hearing.
Newsome remains held in the Macomb County Jail.Â
