PENNINGTON COUNTY, Minn. (TCN) — Authorities recently arrested a 34-year-old mother on suspicion of slicing her son’s throat with a knife because “demons” allegedly told her to.
On the morning of July 20, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an injured juvenile in Silverton Township. According to KVLY-TV, at the scene, deputies noticed Edwina Stoutenburgh outside wearing very little clothing. Authorities put her in handcuffs, to which she allegedly said, “Don’t take them off.”
Per court documents reviewed by KVLY, Stoutenburgh claimed “demons” named Bondage and Infirmity made her do various things, such as eat dog feces.
Stoutenburgh reportedly told authorities that these supposed demons took over when she woke up that morning, and she said they made her cut open a duck’s head and eat one of its eyes after the sick animal had been put down.
According to KVLY, Stoutenburgh claimed she didn’t want to harm her kids, but the demons made her grab a knife and go to her son’s room to drink his blood. She allegedly said “they” wanted her to kill all of her children, her husband, and herself.
Stoutenburgh reportedly told officials that she rolled her son over and cut his throat while he slept, but the knife was too dull. She allegedly went downstairs to sharpen the weapon but stopped herself in the stairwell as she headed back up.
The children began to panic, and Stoutenburgh claimed the “demons” instructed her to tell her kids she was going to kill them. She reportedly told authorities she attempted to drop the knife but couldn’t.
According to KVLY, Stoutenburgh said she told her kids to leave, and she gave them keys to drive away. She reportedly claimed this was the longest she had heard the voices, and she believed everyone was going to die. Her husband allegedly arrived home and allowed deputies to search the residence. Investigators reportedly found a severed duck’s head and a chef’s knife in the kitchen sink with apparent blood.
According to KVLY, Stoutenburgh’s husband said he was at work when his wife called him and told him “demons” were taking over her body.
Stoutenburgh was booked into the Pennington County Jail and faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and second-degree assault.
