SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. (TCD) — Officials are continuing to search for a man they allege killed an elderly woman, set her body on fire, fled the area, then later robbed a Subway sandwich shop.
According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, Dec. 30, Sammy Patrick allegedly went to the victim’s house, sexually assaulted, fatally shot, and burned the victim. The sheriff’s office said he was considered armed and dangerous.
Sheriff Mike Lee identified the victim as 73-year-old Dee Eady. He told WJTV-TV Patrick allegedly shot Eady outside her home, then burned her body “to try to cover his tracks.”
Then, on New Year’s Day, Patrick allegedly stole a truck, drove to a Subway on Highway 61 South, ordered a sandwich, and robbed the shop before driving away. WJTV reports Woodville Police Chief Lemuel Rutledge said Patrick ordered a meatball sub, but when he went to pay, he “took out two handguns and demanded money and the keys to the clerk’s vehicle.”
The cashier reportedly handed him money but would not give him her keys.
Rutledge told the Natchez Democrat, “No one was hurt during the robbery, but the clerk was shaken.”
According to WLBT-TV, One of Eady’s relatives reportedly went to her home and found her deceased after receiving an alert from the security system.
Lee said detectives do not know of any “direct connection” between Eady and Patrick even though they lived near each other. She was a widow and resided by herself.
He explained, “There may have been, if any, some interaction, but there would not be a direct link such as him working for her or knowing her in a personal situation.”
Mississippi Highway Patrol, Louisiana State Police, and other law enforcement agencies are continuing to search for Patrick.
