BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (TCD) — A 20-year-old woman who disappeared over the weekend has been found shot to death.
The Birmingham Police Department issued a missing person alert for Mahogany Jackson, who was last seen on Sunday, Feb. 25 wearing a blonde wig, black shirt, and blue jeans. She had reportedly sent a text to family members at around 7:30 a.m. that morning.
According to AL.com, in a text message, Jackson told her family she was being held hostage and asked them to alert police. Jackson reportedly shared her location with her mother and sister.
AL.com reports the location pinged to Serenity Apartments in Birmingham’s Powderly community. However, when police went to the building, they reportedly did not find Jackson there.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, on Monday, Feb. 26, at around 2:19 a.m., officers responded to a report of a deceased person on the side of the road at 17th Street Southwest and Laurel Avenue. Officers found the victim, later identified as Jackson, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services pronounced Jackson dead at the scene. Police said no one is in custody as of Monday, Feb. 26.
In a statement, officers said, “Our hearts are with the family and friends in this time of sorrow.”
