A South Carolina man who was reported missing last week was later arrested after he was found alongside human remains, police said.
Charles Antwine Jr., 56, and Christy Ward were reported missing from a Brunswick County home. On June 14, a deputy at Lynches River boat landing at Riverside Cemetery discovered a submerged vehicle that was subsequently traced to Antwine and an address near Lake City, according to The Post and Courier.
No one was inside the submerged car. Deputies who performed a welfare check at the address reportedly noticed an unusual odor, and nobody answered the door. After obtaining a search warrant, police entered the home and discovered Antwine sitting on a couch, according to The Post and Courier.
Florence County police said they discovered human remains inside containers that were taped shut.
“We found some containers with body parts in them where they appeared to be cut up,” Florence County Sheriff TJ Joye told WMBF. “It’s something like out of a horror movie. Very horrific.”
Ward is still missing as the remains are pending identification.
Meanwhile, Antwine is charged with desecrating human remains. He remains jailed without bond as police expect to file additional criminal charges.
