A North Carolina woman reported missing last month in Union County has been found dead in Jackson County, according to police.
According to Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey, police found the body of 37-year-old Allison Thomas earlier this week in western North Carolina, in county family members said she has no ties to. Fox 8 reports that police are treating the case as a homicide.
Family members previously told WSOC-TV that Thomas was last seen on February 13 at a house off Flint Road, close to Highway 742 in Marshville. Her family reportedly said at the time they feared she was in danger.
“She would do anything she could to keep that cell phone on, that cell phone is missing,” Allison’s brother, Walter Thomas, said last month.
Allison’s sister, Sunshine Thomas, said that the victim had a hurt knee, no car, and didn’t have her glasses or purse with her when she vanished.
“This is not her at all,” Sunshine Thomas said. “We know that something is awry, that something has gone on, and we do not believe in any way, shape, or form that she walked away from anything.”
Thomas leaves behind two daughters, according to her family.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office is working with the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and Jackson County law enforcement to find the suspect(s) responsible.
