A Maryland woman was found dead in her ex-boyfriend’s apartment after he reported her missing and took a flight to India.
Arjun Sharma, 26, told police on January 2 that he’d last seen Nikitha Godishala, 27, on December 31 at his apartment, Howard County police said. After making the report, Sharma boarded a flight for his native India.
Detectives went to Sharma’s apartment the following day and found Godishala’s body.
Investigators believe Sharma killed Godishala early in the evening on December 31. They have not uncovered a motive for the murder.
According to WJZ, Godishala was stabbed to death. A warrant for Sharma’s arrest charges him with first- and second-degree murder.
“There was obviously some premeditation to be able to do this and then to flee the country, so that’s what we have right now as far as charges,” Howard County police spokesman Seth Hoffman told WJZ.
Police said they are now working with federal authorities to locate Sharma in India and bring him back to the United States to face charges.
