ROBINSONVILLE, Miss. (TCD) — A 37-year-old man stands accused of killing the mother of his child while her other kids were home, including a newborn.
On Friday, Jan. 5, shortly before 10 p.m., the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting after a juvenile went to a neighbor’s house and said their mother had been shot. Deputies and first responders rushed to the scene at 2669 Kirby Road.
Upon their arrival, deputies heard more gunshots from inside the apartment and found two other children outside. The sheriff’s office learned there was a newborn in the home, and they secured the scene and evacuated the neighborhood.
Deputies made contact with the suspect, Donald Patrick, via phone, and convinced him to surrender his weapon and exit the apartment. He reportedly told the sheriff’s office he “shot his child’s mother,” and he confirmed there was a newborn inside.
Deputies took Patrick into custody at around 10:35 p.m.
Authorities located 34-year-old Shaterica Queshun Bell in the apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, and the Tunica County Coroner pronounced her dead at the scene.
Officials found the newborn unharmed.
In an update, the sheriff’s office said Patrick was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated domestic violence, two counts of felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a stolen weapon. A judge issued him a bond of $425,000.
