GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (TCD) — Police announced this week that a 31-year-old man allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life in front of a day care facility during pickup.
According to a news release from the Grain Valley Police Department, on Monday, Nov. 13, shortly before 6 p.m., officers responded to Milestone Academy to a report of shots fired in the parking lot. Police found two people dead at the scene: Shasta Gilmore, and her husband, Randal Gilmore.
Police said that it was an “isolated domestic incident that resulted in a murder-suicide.”
According to the statement, Randal Gilmore allegedly shot his wife and then himself as the day care facility was closing for the day. The couple’s children and other day care attendees and staff reportedly witnessed the incident during parent pickup.
In a statement posted on social media, the director and owners of Milestone Academy said, “The gravity of this situation is undeniable, and our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected. We acknowledge the tremendous support from the Grain Valley community, school district and appreciate the professionalism of the police during this ongoing investigation.”
Milestone Academy said their day care services resumed on Wednesday, Nov. 15, and they’re providing counselors. Police said their Victim Advocate division will also be present.
Police said in a statement, “We are heartbroken over this horrific act of violence and continue to keep the children in our thoughts and prayers.”
