A Massachusetts mother and her 11-year-old daughter were gunned down Tuesday afternoon while they were sitting in a parked vehicle.
Family members identified the victims as Chasity Nuñez and her daughter, Zella, WCVB reported.
Worcester Police said the shooting took place at about 3 p.m. Tuesday in the city’s Columbus Park neighborhood.
Neighbors told WBZ they heard the shooting.
“I could hear this sound, that was not like anything I’ve heard before,” said Linda Orcutt. “Several, maybe like 12, maybe more in a row. One after another.”
“An act of such violence has no place in our city. The residents of Worcester deserve better, and we will stand alongside our community in sorrow and solidarity,” said a joint statement from City Manager Eric Batista, Mayor Joseph Petty, Interim Police Chief Paul Saucier and Superintendent of Schools Rachel Monárrez.
On Wednesday afternoon, police were still trying to determine if the mother and daughter were targeted, Boston 25 reported.
