A Pennsylvania woman was arrested on Sunday, after three deceased infants were reportedly found dead at her former home.
Armstrong County police learned that Jessica Mauthe, 39, was evicted in mid-August, weeks before the homeowner cleaned the residence and discovered a trash bag with a foul odor in the closet.
The coroner later confirmed it was a dead baby in the trash bag, according to KDKA.
Troopers reportedly found two totes in the attic — one of which contained a trash bag with a deceased infant wrapped in a towel. The other tote had a trash bag containing a bucket with a dead infant, which was also wrapped in a towel, according to the Leader Times.
Mauthe allegedly told police that she gave birth to the first baby a year ago. She claimed she was on the toilet when she gave birth, and the baby remained in the toilet for several minutes. She stated that the eventually removed the newborn from the toilet and wrapped them in a towel until they suffocated, according to the Butler Eagle.
Mauthe reportedly told police that she wrapped the baby’s body in plastic bags and put it in an upstairs bedroom closet, where the homeowner eventually discovered it.
The Butler Eagle reported that Mauthe then confessed to giving birth to two more babies which she also suffocated before concealing their bodies in totes in the attic.
Following the alleged confession, Mauthe was charged with criminal homicide and abuse of a corpse. She is due in court on September 23.
