BREMERTON, Wash. (TCN) — A mother who allegedly told her friend that her baby’s cries made her feel like she was “gonna snap and murder” stands accused of assaulting the infant and causing a brain bleed.
According to the Bremerton Police Department, on Aug. 7, officers responded to the Virginia Mason Franciscan Emergency Room after a father brought his 8-week-old child in. Medical staff determined the baby suffered a brain bleed consistent with being shaken and multiple fractures in various stages of healing, indicating they were not accidental.
Police allege the infant was with her mother, Shannon McNease, when the injuries occurred. Allegedly, McNease “had an online conversation with a friend revealing homicidal intent toward the infant.”
According to court documents reviewed by KIRO-TV, McNease allegedly told a friend in a Facebook message, “Like I legit want to shake her to death or throw her on top of the floor so hard she dies. Only when she’s crying and screaming though, which I guess is almost pretty much all the time at this point. Her cries make me feel like I’m gonna snap and murder.”
Authorities allege that McNease also wrote to the child’s father, “She’s back on her BS again,” and, “I can’t stand her dude.”
McNease reportedly told police she didn’t mean to write the messages and that she suffers from anxiety and has been struggling with postpartum depression.
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office announced Sept. 4 that McNease was arrested and faces charges of first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault of a child.
