Morgan Geyser Petitions for Release From State Mental Health Facility – Crime Online

One of two convicted in the 2014 Slender Man stabbing of a 12-year-old classmate has again filed a petition for her conditional release from a Wisconsin mental health facility.

Morgan Geyser, now 21, pleaded guilty to attempted first degree homicide but not criminally responsible because of mental disease or defect. The plea kept her out of prison, but she was sentenced to the maximum of 40 years in the state facility, as CrimeOnline reported.

Her co-defendant, Anissa Weier, ultimately pleaded guilty to second degree homicide, also not criminally responsible. She was sentenced to 25 years in a state facility but petitioned for and was granted conditional release in September 2021.

Weier’s release was contingent on continued psychiatric treatment and wearing a GPS monitor. The GPS monitor condition was dropped last year.

The girls said they attacked their friend to appease the fictitious Slender Man, a horror character created for a indie video games. Weier and Geyser said they believed their families would be harmed if they didn’t kill their classmate.

So, on Geyer’s 12th birthday, they lured Payton Leutner to the woods and stabbed her 19 times, leaving her for dead. The girl survived, however, and made her way to a road where she was found by a bicyclist.

According to WITI, Geyser has petitioned for release twice before, in 2022 and 2023, but withdrew both petitions. A judge now has 30 days to appoint doctors to evaluate Geyser, and then the case will come into the courtroom.

WITI reached out to Geyser’s attorney, Anthony Cotton, but he had no comment.
