Country music singer Morgan Wallen was arrested and charged with multiple felonies after police in Tennessee say he threw a chair off the rooftop of a Nashville honky-tonk.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department announced the arrest on the social platform X, formerly Twitter, on Monday. The incident occurred on Sunday evening and police said Wallen was booked on three counts of felony reckless endangerment and a single count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
Police allege Wallen threw a chair from the roof of Chief’s Bar on Broadway in downtown Nashville. When the chair plummeted to the ground six stories below, it landed close to two Metropolitan Nashville Police Department officers.
The department said Wallen posted bond of $15,250 and was promptly released.
Wallen, 30, was arrested just before 11 p.m. on Sunday, according to police. A review of the online public docket for Davidson County Criminal Court indicates that his next court date is scheduled for May 3 before Judge Ana Escobar for a settlement hearing. Wallen has a concert scheduled in Nashville for May 1 and May 2. An attorney for the country music singer could not immediately be reached on Monday.
According to USA Today, police interviewed staff at the bar and also reviewed video from Sunday night. The video allegedly shows Wallen “lunging” before he sent the chair flying over the side of the roof and then clattering to the ground below where the two officers were standing. It did not land on them, but just a few feet nearby.
Witnesses said Wallen was laughing after the fact. Police said Wallen created a “hazardous condition by an act that served no legitimate purpose,” according to the outlet.
Wallen is no stranger to controversy.
In 2021, TMZ published a video of him appearing inebriated and using a racial slur. A year prior to that, he was arrested in May 2020 at Kid Rock’s Nashville watering hole. Forbes also reported in December 2023 that he was arrested then for disorderly conduct and public intoxication. Wallen also saw his invite to appear as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live rescinded during the COVID-19 pandemic because he failed to observe safety protocols on set.
