NEW YORK (TCN) — A man has been arrested and taken into custody in connection with the death and dismemberment of his wife, who was last seen alive in July 2025.
WPIX reports Salisha Ali, 34, was reported missing by her husband, 75-year-old Rupchand Simboo, a week after she was last seen in the couple’s home July 13, 2025. On Sept. 22, 2025, Ali’s torso was found in a wooded area by sanitation workers. It was wrapped in a moving blanket and secured with rope and plastic wrap.
The New York Post reports NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said a forensic anthropologist reviewing the case “believes that straight edge instruments, such as a knife, [were] used to cut through the soft tissue, and some sort of saw was used to cut through the bone.”
A search warrant was executed at Simboo’s home on Oct. 17, 2025, and materials used to bind Ali’s torso were found in the garage, The New York Post reports.
According to People, Ali’s death was officially ruled a homicide on Jan. 31.
On March 5, one of Ali’s decomposed arms, her head, and her legs were found at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, WPIX reports. Authorities linked Simboo to both scenes with the Life360 location app on his phone; his phone allegedly pinged at the refuge on July 14, 2025, and at the wooded area where her torso was found on July 15, 2025.
On March 11, Simboo was arrested at his home. He was ordered held without bail at his arraignment on charges of murder and concealment of a human corpse, according to the New York Post.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said, “As alleged, the defendant went to extraordinary lengths to evade responsibility for the brutal killing of his wife, discarding her remains in remote locations and concealing critical evidence in an apparent effort to cover up this horrific crime,” according to WPIX.
Ali worked as a home health aide and was a native of Trinidad and Tobago. She and Simboo were in a long-distance relationship, according to WPIX, before they married in 2024, at which point Ali moved to the U.S.
According to the New York Post, authorities have not released the exact circumstances of when and where Ali’s death took place, or her cause of death. Simboo is due back in court on March 16.
