A player for the NBA G League and his girlfriend kidnapped and murdered a young woman who went missing earlier this month, according to cops in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The case started Dec. 7 when two people walked into a police substation to report the victim, Marayna Rodgers, 23, missing, officers said.
Detectives determined that Rodgers had been out with friends on Dec. 5, and had a prearranged meeting with her friend, Sakari Harnden, 19. Harnden brought her boyfriend, Chance Comanche, 27, to the meeting.
Rodgers, however, had not been seen or heard from since then.
She was a medical assistant from Washington state, in Vegas to visit friends, according to Las Vegas CBS affiliate KLAS.
Detectives said they suspected foul play early in the investigation. Cops said they arrested Harnden on Wednesday in Las Vegas for kidnapping.
Then, on Friday, the FBI arrested Comanche in Sacramento, California, for kidnapping. Comanche was a center for the NBA minor league team the Stockton Kings, affiliated with the Sacramento Kings, until his release the same day of his arrest.
Authorities said they obtained information after the arrests and used this to recover human remains in a desert area in Henderson, Nevada. The Clark County Coroner identified the remains as Rodgers.
Investigators claim that it was the defendant couple who killed Rodgers. Law enforcement was working with prosecutors to charge Harnden and Comanche with open murder.
