Nebraska Boy, 10, Shot Dead on Thanksgiving Night by His Father: Police – Crime Online

Omaha police say a 10-year-old boy is dead, allegedly shot by his own father on Thanksgiving in what may have been a case of mistaken identity.

According to the Omaha Police Department, police responded to a home at 1112 N 31st Avenue in Omaha Wednesday night, and found the child, identified as Kendrick McDonald, unresponsive with a gunshot wound. First responders took him to Nebraska Medicine, where he was pronounced dead.

Police subsequently arrested Kendrick’s father, Will McDonald, 47, for criminal homicide and “possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.”

KETV reports that investigators believe McDonald shot his son after mistaking him for someone trying to break into his vehicle.

“Tragic, in one word it’s extremely tragic,” Omaha Police Captain, Jeremy Christensen, said. “He [Will McDonald] was taken into custody and booked for criminal homicide use of a weapon to commit a felony and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.”

Several people were inside the home when the incident happened, Christensen said, and all of them were questioned.

“The investigation is ongoing at this time. The Omaha Police Department offers its deepest condolences to Kendrick’s family for their loss,” Omaha PD said in a statement. “Further updates will be provided by the OPD Public Information Office.”

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral and burial expenses.

This is a developing story and will be updated as additional information becomes available. Check back for updates.
