NASHUA, N.H. (TCN) — A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged with eight felony counts of domestic violence-related first-degree assault in connection with injuries suffered by his 3-month-old son.

Drew Babcock was arrested March 13 after police were notified by the Division of Children, Youth and Families about the injuries to the infant, referred to as J.B., WCVB reports. The injuries were initially discovered at a doctor’s appointment when his grandmother brought him in to be treated for cold symptoms, according to KPTV. He was found to have more than 30 fractures throughout his body.

According to NBC Boston, a further investigation led detectives to believe that Babcock was responsible, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Prosecutor Melissa Farr said Babcock “admitted that since his son was a month old, because he is colicky, there were multiple times where he would squeeze J.B., the alleged victim in this case, in the area of his chest. He admitted that he did this because he lost control.”

According to KPTV, Farr said Babcock admitted he punched J.B. in the back and would allegedly use half of his strength to squeeze him two to three times a week. J.B. is in the hospital for serious injuries, but doctors believe they are not life-threatening.

A defense attorney for Babcock alleged that J.B. bruises easily because he did not receive a vitamin shot, according to KPTV.

WCVB reports a judge ordered Babcock held without bail and that he cannot have contact with J.B.
