A New Mexico man charged with killing two men on Friday allegedly told police that a cockroach instructed him to commit the slayings.
Cops who responded to reports of gunfire at an Albuquerque residence were met by Alexis Hernandez, 25, who was allegedly wielding a gun and had a “Marine Corps saber” on his hip. Hernandez identified himself as a Marine before disclosing there were two deceased men in the home, according to the Albuquerque Journal.
People reported that one of the victims was found with possible gunshot wounds in the home, while a second man with suspected stab wounds was discovered in an attached apartment.
Hernandez allegedly told police that an encrypted message in a cockroach told him to kill. He also stated that one of the victims, whom he described as a friend, had been stalking him and stashing cameras in light fixtures, according to the Albuquerque Journal.
Police said Hernandez claimed he was “hearing creepy voices coming from the vents [and] had been getting signs that he had to end (one of the men) before he ended him.”
Hernandez reportedly confessed to killing the two men, describing how he shot them before obtaining more ammunition from his vehicle to shoot them some more.
Bernalillo County police said there were three other adults and two children in the home at the time of Friday’s incident. KOB reported that the three adults were detained for questioning, and the children were safely removed from the scene.
According to the news outlet, the two shooting victims were Hector Rios and another man only identified as “Yorces.” Rios reportedly owned the property where Friday’s shooting transpired. Rios was also the friend whom Hernandez accused of stalking.
Hernandez was booked into jail on Saturday under two open counts of murder. The incident remains under investigation.
