A New York woman has been charged with manslaughter after her newborn daughter was found dead in a bag last year.
In addition to manslaughter, Lasasha Gouldbourne, 31, faces charges of criminally negligent homicide, assault, and acting in a manner injurious to a child, WPIX reported.
Police say that Gouldbourne gave birth in her mother’s bathroom in the Bronx on September 1, 2023. When she left the bathroom, she left behind a bag of clothes. Her mother, who knew that she was pregnant, went into the bathroom and found the newborn in the bag.
The infant was rushed to a hospital but declared dead. Police located Gouldbourne and took her to Bronx-North Central Hospital, where she delivered the infant girl’s twin, a boy, by emergency cesarean section.
Gouldbourne is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
