An investigation is underway in California after a newborn baby was discovered at a college apartment building on Monday.
KABC reported that a full-term infant girl was found at the Cardinal Gardens Apartments — located near the University of Southern California campus. An hour earlier, firefighters responded to the apartments for a 20-year-old woman who was having difficulty breathing.
Los Angeles police told firefighters to return to the apartments after finding the unresponsive infant. It is unclear whether the unidentified woman’s medical incident is related to the deceased infant.
The Los Angeles medical examiner listed the infant as 19 hours old. However, her cause and manner of death are pending.
“They went straight to the bedroom, so I’m assuming they already knew something that happened,” a USC student told KABC.
Monday’s incident remains under investigation.
