WILMINGTON, N.C. (TCN) — Authorities recently arrested a 66-year-old man on suspicion of putting narcotics in his granddaughters’ ice cream.
On Aug. 8, James Yokeley Jr. flagged down an officer with the Wilmington Police Department and said his two juvenile granddaughters discovered “two hard objects” in ice cream they had recently bought at a Dairy Queen.
Medical personnel examined the minors and determined they hadn’t ingested any substances, but officials found two pills that they suspect were illegal narcotics. According to an arrest warrant reviewed by WRAL-TV, the pills tested positive for MDMA and cocaine.
Police obtained surveillance footage and allege Yokeley put the two pills in both victims’ ice cream. He was arrested and faces charges of contaminating food or drink with a controlled substance and felony child abuse. Yokeley was booked into the New Hanover County Detention Center and posted a $100,000 secured bond.
State auditor Dave Boliek reportedly chose Yokeley to serve as chairman of the Surry County Board of Elections in June.
