Cody “Batman” Dewayne Helms, a man from Concord, North Carolina, has been charged with the murder of his friend, Jonathan Wayne Yancey, following a fatal shooting incident.
The incident occurred on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at a home in the 500 block of Crystal Lane in Kannapolis, Rowan County. Helms, who is 36 years old, was identified as the shooter by witnesses, and Yancey, who was 33, was found dead inside the home from a single gunshot wound.
The shooting was reported by someone who lived at the home, who called 911 to report that a family member had been shot. The caller mentioned that the suspect, who had already fled the scene, went by the name of “Batman.” Upon arrival, deputies from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office found Yancey dead.
