Curtis John Gehring was born in McLaughlin, SD on March 25, 1954. Curt was the 5th of 6 children born to John & Lydia (Moser) Gehring. He was raised on the family farm east of McIntosh and attended McIntosh School until he graduated in 1972.
Curt was introduced to his wife of 50 years, Annette Blotsky by her brother & Curt’s classmate Bill Blotsky in 1971.
After graduation, Curt went to Seattle Washington with his oldest sister, Charolotte, where he worked in a winch factory for two years before returning to the pull of his lifelong passion on the farm and future wife.
Custom harvesting was another adventure Curt took part in while he was in high school until 1991. He traveled from Texas to North Dakota and made many memories and friendships along the way.
Curt and Annette were united in marriage on September 21st, 1974. They moved to Aberdeen, SD where Curt worked for the City of Aberdeen and an Auto Parts store. There were many stories Curt shared about being a city worker; one the most memorable was with his friend Charlie, a monkey at Wylie Park.
Curt was, once again, drawn back to the farm life in 1976 moving back to the McIntosh farm with Annette and continued custom harvesting, along with driving truck for John Corcoran until purchasing his own truck.
Throughout the years, Curt gave his time to sitting on many boards including the McLaughlin Elevator Board, McIntosh School Board, Corson County FSA, McIntosh Co-op, and Redeemer Lutheran Church Board.
Curt lived his life farming, ranching, and trucking. He instilled his hard work ethic in each of his children and grandchildren. If you were going to do a job, “You do it right, or you just don’t do it at all”.
Curt made many memories visiting relatives and friends, taking his kids and grandkids to the sand tree and sand buttes, fishing and shooting prairie dogs, riding his chopper motorcycle and in this past year traveling and making new friends from around the world.
Curt passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, at his home surrounded with love from his wife and children.
Curt and Annette were blessed and survived with 4 beautiful children Angela (Mike) Johnson of Mellette SD, Heather (Will) Botha of McIntosh, SD, Craig (Jenn) Gehring of McIntosh, SD, and Timothy (Kourtny) Gehring of McIntosh, SD. Curt also enjoyed many memories and teasing sessions with his grandchildren: Kyler (Morgan) Johnson, Hunter Johnson, Sierrah Johnson, Chris Botha, Gage and Adalyn Gehring and Bristol, Everly, Miles and Britton Gehring. Curt was able to be promoted to a great grandpa as well to Paisley Johnson. Curt is also survived by his siblings: Charlotte (Don) Moser of McLaughlin, SD, Joyce (Dave) Frazier of Woodbury, TN, Donna (Don) Mott of Johnstown, CO and Dwight (Rita) Gehring of Tioga, ND.
Curt was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lydia Gehring; grandparents William and Justina (Schweigert) Moser, Godfred and Christinia (Schmeier) Gehring, brother Dennis Gehring and grandchildren Baby Johnson and Alisha Norma Gehring along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
