Obituary | Destiny Leaf of McLaughlin, South Dakota

March 22, 2000 – January 23, 2023

Funeral services for Destiny Leaf, 22, of McLaughlin will be at 1 PM, Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLaughlin. Burial will at St. John’s Episcopal Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A procession will leave the funeral home at 4 PM Friday for an all night wake with services at 7 PM at the church. Destiny passed away Monday, January 23, 2022 near McLaughlin.  

Destiny Kira Xeige Leaf, 22 was born March 22,  2000 in Bismarck, North Dakota to Kristin Steele and Jeremy Leaf, Destiny had lived majority of her life in McLaughlin, SD she was raised by her grandmother Elizabeth Bruguier and grandfather Joseph Milo Blue Coat along with her older sister Amy, she attended McLaughlin school kindergarten thru 6^th grade. Destiny moved to Arizona with her mother where she attended 7^th and 8^th grade, she moved back to McLaughlin where she graduated high school in 2018.

While growing up she participated in the pow wow trail traveling with her grandmother Elizabeth, Destiny loved to dance fancy shawl and jingle, in doing so she was asked to be Jr. Miss Bear Soldier and Miss Bear Soldier back to back. In high school she was asked to be a part of the cheer team, in March 2015 they won ‘Spirit of six’ while cheering for the McLaughlin girls’ basketball team at state class B in Huron, SD. She cheered for McLaughlin the remainder of high school.  After graduating high school, she attended United Tribes Technical College in Human Services. In February 2018 she gave birth to her first daughter Elizabeth, January 2020 Victoria and then December 2020 Katherine. Her life revolved around her girls once they were born. She loved to work and had various jobs. Anytime Destiny entered a room she lit it up with her personality. She is known for her crazy silly personality and for how much she loved her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Destiny is survived by her daughters Elizabeth, Victoria and Katherine. Her mother Kristin(Josh) Steele, her father Jeremy Leaf, her 3 sisters Amy(Aysin) Makes Him First, Melody Scott and Memory Leaf. 1 brother Kayson Chipman. Her grandmothers Elizabeth Bruguier, Sharon DeMarrias and Pearl Hagans. Great grandmother Anna Mae Steele. Maternal uncles Gerald and David Running Hawk. Paternal Aunts Brittany White Bird, Deidra, Gabrielle and Sandra Leaf. Nephews A’stin Leaf, Aysin Jr. and Presley Makes Him First, Andreaus White Face and Messiah Leaf, Nieces Eliyana Leaf and Elmita White Face. Proceeded in death by Grandfathers Joseph Milo Blue Coat and Kenny Leaf, Aunt Lolita White Twin, Niece Amina Leaf. Grandmother Salina High Elk. Cousins Yamni, Patrick and Ty Running Hawk.
