Obituary | Homer Cutt of McLaughlin, South Dakota

May 25, 1954 – December 31, 2025

Funeral services for Homer Cutt, 71, of McLaughlin, will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 12, 2026, at the McLaughlin City Auditorium. Burial will be in the Good Shepherd Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A procession will leave Kesling Funeral Home on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 4:00 PM, all family and friends are invited and encouraged to join. A prayer service will be at 7:00 PM, Sunday at the City Auditorium with an all-night wake to follow. 

Homer Lee Cutt was born on May 25th, 1954, in Parmalee, SD to Isaac Cutt and Helen No Moccasin Cutt. Lee made his journey to the spirit world on December 31st, 2025, in his home in Mclaughlin, SD. Lee grew up in Wanblee, SD in a place called Sandcreek. He met and married Margaret Ann (Martin) Cutt on November 4th, 1977. They were married for 45 years before her passing in June 2022. Throughout their marriage they lived in numerous places in SD before settling in their permanent home in Mclaughlin, SD. His past work history included employment at Crazy Horse School, Rosebud Commodity Warehouse and various construction jobs. Lee and Margaret had a hand in raising a few of their nieces and nephews. Mainly Nathan Martin, Darrell Two Hearts and Leslie Ortley. They also raised their first grandson Jackson and their first granddaughter Stevie, beginning in their pre-teen years. They also raised their first great grandson Talon since he was 3 years old. After Margaret’s passing, Lee promised to continue caring for his great grandchildren Talon, Memphis, Chandler and Ehanni Win. He continued taking them to powwows so they could dance and sing. The great grandsons and grandsons continued to sing with their drum Standing Cloud, named after their uncle/lala John Martin-Standing Cloud. Lee was an avid church going man and fluent Lakota Speaker and a good Lala. He had more health issues as he got older and had succumbed to them so suddenly. His great grandchildren whom he lived with will miss him tremendously as well as all the other grandchildren and great grandchildren he has taught over the years. They all have great memories with their lala. He loved to play horseshoes and throw a football around during the summer with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The friends of the grandchildren and great grandchildren took him as their Lala as well; they often spent the whole day at lalas. He taught them to sing too. Lee would sing everywhere he went. He loved songs on the radio and still played powwow CDs. When the great grandchildren would wake up for school, Lee would be singing. The grandchildren and great grandchildren loved when he would “make it rain” when he did his rain dance. Although he is gone, everything he has taught over the years will be remembered. Lee is survived by his step daughter, Melinda (Michael) Dunkley; Grandchildren: Jackson Red Bird, Stevie Red Bird, Lisa White, Ericka Horse, Jacob (Jordanna) Horse; Great Grandchildren: Talon Red Bird, Memphis Red Bird, Chandler (Melyssa) Red Bird, EhanniWin Red Bird Cassius Morrison, Wiyaka Ashley, Dacotis Ashley, Mateo Bad Hand, Canku Marshall, Johnna Marshall,Grace Cross, Maliah Good Voice Elk, Kallaia White Mountain Kai-Lee Horse. Great Great Grandchildren; Ira Brown Bull III.Brothers; Ronnie Cutt, Talbert (Marcella) Cutt.Sisters; Lavina Cutt, Corrina Cutt, Shirley Horned Antelope and numerous nephews and nieces..

Lee was proceeded in death by his wife Margaret (Martin) Cutt, son John Martin-Standing Cloud, father Isaac Cutt, mother Helen (No Moccasin) Cutt.Sisters; Charlotte Eagle Bull, Elsie No Moccasin and Mary Jane Cutt.Brothers; Francis Cutt, Jackson Cutt and Andrew Cutt Sr.Aunts and Uncles; Angeline Runs Above, Marjorie Sharp Fish, Cora No Moccasin, Alden No Moccasin, George No Moccasin, Edith Poor Bear and Isabelle Cutt.
