Jayme Grant Dupris, “Ohiyesa” (Always Wins) age 47, journeyed to his heavenly home on Monday January 16, 2023, in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.

On April 1, 1975, at 4:12 pm our son Jayme Grant began his life journey here in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.  Born to his loving parents Wilmer Fredrick Dupris and Gloria Jean LaPlante, he was our first born, our only son – and a joy to us right from the beginning, always full of energy and mischief! His adventurous, fearless nature rendered many a trip to the emergency room and to say the least, he kept everyone on their toes!  Any family member can likely share a story of Jayme’s teasing nature, his laughter, his love for life and all his “shenanigans” along the way!  His loving sisters are Memoree Michon Dupris (born 1977) and Codi D’Lauris Dupris (born 1980).  Always smaller in stature, Jayme would teasingly call his sisters “big girls” or “big” little sisters, get them both upset and then say, “I love you sister”.   Jayme called his mom nearly every day to visit, to share funny stories with her, to talk about anything and everything, the kids and school, his plans to improve his health and return to work.  He loved spending time with his mother, cruising with a Coke and listening to oldies tunes.  His mother’s loving advice and encouraging words meant everything to him and he always ended their visits with “I love you mom”.  In January 2022 Jayme lost his dad to a tragic accident, a loss difficult for him to accept and he had struggled greatly this past year.

Jayme grew up in Eagle Butte and spent a lot of time in his home community of Iron Lightning.  Summers and spare time were with the “boys” – Dusty, BD, Dan, Will and Jay, helping Uncle Doug brand calves and colts.  Jayme was the rider for the Dupris Ranch Indian Relay race team along with “BD” and Baby Case.  They won several races and took home buckles.  He also jockeyed for Melvin Ducheneaux, traveling to Sheridan WY with Aunt Barb being most memorable for him.  Jayme rode in the Wakinyan Maza Memorial suicide race, quite often winning the race.  He often spent time at the Lloyd Jensen ranch to help his Uncle Lloyd.  In 1986 at the age of 11, Jayme was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Eagle Butte and attended Sunday school, summer bible camps in Falls Creek, OK and Bob Marshall camp in the Black Hills.

Jayme attended schools at C-EB Elementary, Andersonville Middle School, Andersonville, TN and graduated 8th grade at Takini School.  He attended C-EB High School and graduated in 1995.  In high school he participated in cross country, track, wrestling, basketball, football and rodeo and earned numerous ribbons and medals.

In 1999 Jayme met the love of his life, Merrilee Marrowbone.  In 2000 their first daughter Tylaina Jean was born, followed by Justelle in 2004, Dannika in 2008 and his baby girl Jaymen in 2011.  In July of 2012 Jayme became a single parent and for the past ten plus years he has raised his four daughters.  His priority as a single parent was to ensure his girls were never separated.  Though times were difficult for him, giving up was never an option and he loved his beautiful daughters more than anything.  He relied on his mom and sister Memoree quite often and they always tried to be there for him and the girls.   Jayme was also Poppa to Rilee Jo and Joseph Adonis who are not in the family’s life, but Jayme spoke fondly of them and hoped to one day be able to visit them and get to know them.  He loved his children and grandchildren so much.

Jayme enjoyed the sport of softball and loved to play poker when he could.  He made a lot of good friends along the way and always talked of being able to play softball again.  He was certified through the Cooper Fitness Institute as a fitness trainer and was very committed to working out, body toning and fitness.   He enjoyed working with his clients.  He also loved to go dancing, especially with his sister Shawn (Memoree), his sister cousins and beloved aunties.  One summer, he talked his mom into going to the Hometown Days tent just to give him TWO-STEP dance lessons – and then eventually convinced her to stay till closing so he could “perfect” his dance skills. He was quite the Momma’s boy.  He was known to perform his “famous” splits to some good music just to get the crowd, family and friends going!

Jayme was employed with the CRST Diabetes Program, CRST Fitness Center, CRST CHR Program, CRST Transit Program, firefighting with BIA Wildland Fire Management.  He and his cousin BD also went to work beekeeping for Tom Maxwell outside of Faith, SD.  During COVID he took a job with his cousin Cathy Gray – they had quite the stories to tell, all comical of course about how they finally got things figured out with the equipment, got ‘em up and running to finally got their job done and call it a day!  The training background and jobs he loved most were firefighting and patient care, he was a first responder, certified in CPR and first aid.  He was proud of transporting a crew to New Orleans after hurricane Katrina to aid in the cleanup effort.  He was a humble, kind man with a big heart and would help anyone he could.  He was working for the CRST Diabetes Program when his health began to decline, and he was never able to return to work.
