Jim Berreth, 77, Pollock, SD, passed away unexpectedly on November 29, 2023.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 9, at Pollock Lutheran church, 318 Oahe St, Pollock SD.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Friday December 8, with a prayer service starting at 7:00 PM at Pollock Lutheran church.

Jim was born on January 1, 1946, in Mobridge, SD. He grew up in Pollock and graduated from Pollock high school in 1963. He was a member of the National guard for 4 years. Jim moved to Wyoming to pursue a coal mining career. He was recognized to be a leader in his profession as stated in a performance review “Jim could always be counted on to fulfill any job requirements.”

Uncle Jim spent many hours with his three nephews and niece in his earlier days. During the summer season he enjoyed camping with his sister Joyce and brother-in-law Gene.

Jim retired and moved back to his hometown of Pollock, and opened JB campground welcoming many fishermen and campers. In 2007 he founded his own business known as Crank Caddy along with numerous partners. Jim had a great passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles and attended the Sturgis rally for over 58 years!

Jim enjoyed woodworking and had his own shop in Pollock school. He spent hours creating unique picture frames, crafts, and many items for his friends.

“Jimmy” as he was referred to by many spent countless hours at the Oahe resort with special friends that literally “had his back.”  He was a friend to many throughout his lifetime. Jim’s presence will be dearly missed by all who have had the pleasure of knowing him.

Jim leaves behind his three nephews, Paul (Ruth) Lacher, Dan (Karla) Lacher, Mike (Joan) Lacher; Niece, Mary (Mark) Dahl, seven great nieces and nephews, ten great-great nieces and nephews, brother-in-law Gene Lacher and numerous “special” friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Peter Berreth, his mother, Bertha Berreth, sister Joyce Lacher, and great nephew, Daniel Cole Lacher.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to New Hope Foundation.
