Funeral services for Murray Red Fox, 52, of Eagle Butte will be at 12 PM, Friday, May 9, 2025, at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Episcopal Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday, May 8, 2025, with a prayer service starting at 7 PM, at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The family will be meeting at the 4-mile at 4 PM on Thursday. Murray passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Eagle Butte.
Murray A. Red Fox Sr, 52, was born on June 18th,1972, in Eagle Butte, SD, to C. Beatrice (Bea) Red Fox and Kermit M. Phillips.
Murray began living his younger years in Eagle Butte, SD, until the age of 7. He was then enrolled into the LDS Placement Program with his older brothers Jay Red Fox and Mark Red Fox, and younger sister MaryAnn Red Fox. Murray began to live his life with his foster parents Georgia and Wayne Oberhansley in Ashton ID. He then gained more brothers, Craig, Eric, Dennis, Garth, Gary and Steve; along with sisters LaDawn and Ina.
Murray always said the best times of his life were living in Ashton, Idaho, where he spent his teenage years. He especially loved the mountains where he said he always wanted to return to and live as a “Mountain Man.”
Murray then enlisted into the U.S. Army after graduating high school at the age of 18. He served in Desert Storm as part of a tank crew and metal worker. Murray rarely talked about his time in the service but, he was proud to serve his country. He often spoke about his family and those who served before him, also those who fought at The Battle of Little Bighorn.
After Murray served his country, he met Sandra Baker, of this union Murray’s first son was born, Murray Allen Red Fox Jr. In 1996.
Murray then started work at CR Sanitation Landfill sometime in the late 90s where he met his lifelong love and partner in crime, Delphine Marrowbone. This union brought the birth of two children, Kody Allen Red Fox, in 1997 and Shanelle Leilani Rose Red Fox, in 1999. Later, Taśina Esther Marrowbone joined the family in 2005. Murray took Taśina in as a daughter and raised her as his own. Murray loved all his nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He was proud to have a paternal grandson in Damian Jay Red Fox.
You could always count on Murray to be a hard worker and knowledgeable in many aspects. When it came to carpentry, maintenance, plumbing and cars, he was your person to fix it. “Anything with an engine, I can drive it.” Are his famous words. He was also a water heater and furnace master. He lived his life giving 110%, never worried about tomorrow.
Murray is proceeded in death by lifelong partner, Delphine June Marrowbone; Mother, Beatrice (Bea) Red Fox; Father, Kermit M. Phillips; Brothers, Merle Kermit Phillips and Eldred Jay Red Fox; Foster parents, Wayne and Georgia Oberhansley.
Murray is survived by his children, Murray Jr, Kody (Ariel), Shanelle, Taśina; Brothers, Mark Red Fox, and Loren Anderson; Sisters, MaryAnn Red Fox, Kelly Tincup, Clarice Lara, Rilla Noisy Hawk, Pat Red Fox. He is also survived by his foster brothers and sisters of the Oberhansley family, LaDawn, Dennis, Garth, Gary, Steve and Ina.
His memory will live on in numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren of whom he left an impact on; and to all those who we may have forgotten,or forgot to mention. Please forgive us, for it was not our intention.
