COLUMBUS, Ohio (TCD) — State and local officials are searching for a 5-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped by his foster mother in the middle of the night.
On Wednesday, Feb. 14, shortly after 3 a.m., Columbus Police Department officers responded to the 900 block of Reeb Avenue after a man called 911 and said his wife, Pammy Maye, “woke him up and made statements that made him believe that their foster child Darnell had been hurt.” Maye reportedly “abruptly” left the residence and drove off in a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. Police said she was last seen wearing a green floral nightgown and pink shoes.
Police said they issued an Amber Alert for Darnell Taylor about two hours after the initial call.
The Jeep Cherokee was found in Brooklyn, Ohio, at around 6 a.m., but Maye and Taylor were not located.
Franklin County court records show there is a warrant for Maye’s arrest on charges of first-degree kidnapping and third-degree endangering children.
According to the probable cause affidavit posted by WCMH-TV, Maye allegedly told her husband, the 911 caller, that she killed Taylor and that “their son was no longer alive.” The man searched the house for the boy, then contacted police. While on the phone, Maye allegedly put her hand over her husband’s mouth and said she had “a plan.” She then fled.
