One Dead in Crash After 13-Year-Old in Stolen Car Leads Police on Chase- Woodland Police

 

One Dead in Crash After 13-Year-Old in Stolen Car Leads Police on Chase’ Ten other people, three of them children, were injured. A fiery and fatal crash Saturday afternoon was caused by a California 13-year-old boy joyriding in a car he stole from a family member and sped away from police who attempted a traffic stop.

A woman was killed in the crash, caused when the teen lost control and hit two other vehicles in Woodland, and ten other people — three of them children, including the 13-year-old suspect — were transported to hospitals for treatment, KOVR reported.

The Woodland Police Department said that the California Highway Patrol was investigating the incident.

Woodland Police said officers spotted the suspect vehicle driving erratically in a 25 mph zone. The driver refused to stop when the officers tried to pull the vehicle over, KOVR said. Officers pursued until the driver lost control and crashed. Two of the three vehicles involved caught fire.

 

The suspect was one of the minors injured and remains hospitalized. He was the only person in his vehicle.

The Sacramento Bee said he was charged with vehicular manslaughter with negligence and evading an officer causing injury.
