One Georgia Officer Killed & Another Critically Injured, Shooter Opens Fire at Stone Mountain Hotel – Crime Online

A February 1 shootout at a Georgia hotel ended with one officer dead and another seriously injured.

According to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) press release, the slain officer has been identified as 25-year-old Pradeep Tamang. His colleague, Officer David Reed, is in critical condition but expected to recover.

A Georgia Bureau of Investigation press release stated that the officers arrived at a Holiday Inn, in Stone Mountain, at around 7:30 a.m., following reports of credit card theft.

“Earlier in the day, an individual from South Carolina called police and reported that their credit card was fraudulently used at the Holiday Inn,” the release stated.

When the officers arrived, they questioned the suspect, identified as Kevin Andrews, 35, about allegations regarding fraudulent credit card use.

While trying to arrest Andrews, he allegedly pulled out a handgun and began shooting. The officers returned fire; Andrews sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Atlanta’s 11Alive News reports that Andrews has a criminal history that includes felony convictions for robbery, gun and narcotics offenses.

His latest charges include:

  • Malice murder
  • Felony murder
  • Aggravated assault upon a public safety officer
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

“Our hearts are with the families of Officer Pradeep Tamang and with MPO David Reed, their loved ones and the entire Gwinnett County Police Department during this incredibly difficult time,” Gwinnett County Commission Chair Nicole Love Hendrickson said.
