Out-of-Town Relatives Find Body in Freezer at San Diego Home – Crime Online

Relatives visiting a loved one in San Diego this week came upon a disturbing discovery, Fox 5 reports.

Around 11:45 a.m. Friday, police were called to a home on Zion Avenue near Eldridge Street in the Allied Gardens neighborhood to investigate a reported death.

When officers from the San Diego Police Department’s Eastern Division arrived at the home, they were told that family members from out of town had found a woman’s body in a chest freezer.

The police department’s Homicide Unit subsequently launched an investigation given the body’s presence in the freezer, which was not locked, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Authorities at the scene were not able to determine whether the body had suffered any sort of traumatic injury. Investigators believe the body is female, but no other physical features have been released, such as race or age, CBS 8 reports.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the cause of the person’s death.

Neighbor Ted Durler told KNSD-TV he saw yellow police tape around the home where the body was found and five police cars in the area. Another neighbor, Austin Cowdrey, said he was surprised to learn of the death investigation.

“That’s definitely concerning,” Cowdrey told KNSD-TV. “That’s a little shocking, a little alarming. Stuff like that usually probably wouldn’t happen in a neighborhood like this.”

The Allied Gardens neighborhood is largely residential and abuts various parks and recreational areas.

To report information about the case, call the San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293. Anonymous tips can also be made to Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
