HILLTOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (TCD) — Investigators arrested a man a decade after he and another suspect allegedly broke into the victim’s home, stole his money and guns, tied up his family, and sexually assaulted his girlfriend.
In a statement, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office announced 50-year-old Thomas Delgado was taken into custody Wednesday, Jan. 10, and appeared in court on charges of criminal homicide, rape, robbery, burglary, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, and other related charges in connection with Joseph Canazaro’s death.
The arrest came almost exactly 10 years to the day of the incident. On Jan. 18, 2013, at approximately 10 a.m., Delgado and another man allegedly entered Canazaro’s residence on the 300 block of Swartley Road and bound Canazaro’s girlfriend and his 12-year-old son before they “ransacked” the house. The district attorney’s office alleges Delgado also raped Canazaro’s girlfriend.
The woman and Canazaro’s son escaped and called police. Hilltown Township Police arrived at the home and found Canazaro deceased inside the garage with multiple stab wounds.
Delgado and the other suspect reportedly stole Canazaro’s truck, which investigators later found at a mall.
According to NBC Philadelphia, detectives located a pair of gardening gloves close to the abandoned truck, so they sent the evidence to the FBI lab for DNA analysis. The results came back as belonging to an unknown male.
Officials searched Canazaro’s home and reportedly found 11 cellphones, only eight of which worked.
In 2019, detectives began looking evidence in the stolen pickup truck and found a black mask that allegedly had Delgado’s DNA on it. In late 2022, Bucks County detectives managed to open up 10 of the 11 cellphones from Canazaro’s home and found communication between Canazaro and Delgado. Between August and December 2011, the men made contact six times. On another phone, the two allegedly connected 40 times between June and November 2011.
Delgado was booked into the Bucks County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
