An Ohio couple was arrested on Friday for abusing their 4-month-old daughter who reportedly suffered multiple injuries.
Devin Mims, 24, and Sondra Vanwhy, 19, were arrested the same day they took their baby to a hospital. Sandusky Police Chief Jared Oliver said the infant is not only having seizures and vision issues, but suffered four broken ribs, a broken arm, a broken leg, and two brain bleeds, according to WJW.
“This is one of the worst cases of abuse I have ever seen,” Oliver commented.
According to the Sandusky Register, Mims suggested the rib fractures were caused by “rough” tickling. He allegedly admitted to dropping the infant while she was in a baby rocker.
In addition to the various medical issues, the 4-month-old has a feeding disorder and oral aversion due to the alleged abuse. Erie County Children Services has custody of the infant, the Register reported.
“It was pure torture for that little baby for months,” Detective Carissa Cruz said.
Mims was charged with felonious assault and child endangerment. Vanwhy was charged with child endangerment. Mims and Vanwhy’s bonds were set at $80,000 and $20,000, respectively.
The infant’s current condition was not disclosed.
