Parents Store Disabled Son’s Body in Non-functional Freezer After His July Death – Crime Online

An Alabama couple was arrested on Sunday, the same day their son’s body was reportedly discovered in a freezer at their former home.

Sources told WTVY that Michael Halstead, 44, told Headland police about abandoning Logan Halstead’s body weeks earlier but officers did not find it in the freezer at that time. He and Karen Halstead, 43, moved out of their rented home in September, and the new tenant located the body in an overturned, non-functional freezer in the backyard while cleaning the property.

Michael Halstead allegedly told cops about his son’s body the same day he was arrested for failing to appear in court in a domestic violence case.

At some point, Logan Halstead’s body was covered by tarps and blankets and in a cardboard box. Henry County investigators said it is possible the teen died in late July based on the condition of his body.

According to Henry County Sheriff Eric Blankenship, Michael Halstead said he was experiencing a manic episode and could not recall how his son’s body got in the freezer. However, he testified in court on Monday that his wife had no involvement in the disposal of their son’s remains.

WTVY reported that Logan Halstead, 19, had spina bifida and a host of other medical issues. A cause of death has not been revealed. His parents, who are charged with abuse of a corpse, remain jailed on $175,000 each.
